Cool Science Festival – Carnival Day UCCS
- Event Category: Penrose Heritage Museum
Penrose Heritage Museum is excited to participate in the 2024 Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival UCCS. Penrose Heritage Museum shares the legacy of Colorado Springs philanthropists and entrepreneurs Spencer and Julie Penrose. They created many of the city’s beloved attractions and did so through handwritten and typewriter correspondence as they lived before the inventions of computers and cell phones used by people today.
To represent Technology in STEAM we are presenting dip pens with ink and a typewriter for children and families to use so they can experience these earlier forms of writing and communication. To represent Art in STEAM we are sharing how we use these types of written correspondence as primary source research to develop storytelling through museum exhibits. We will have a story prompt on the typewriter and throughout the day, everyone that stops by can type on the machine and add to the story, getting a sense of storytelling as well as older technology.
This exhibit will be appropriate for all ages. Please note, the museum will be closed on the 28th to give proper support to the event at the Carnival at UCCS.
